Rífsa is a collaborative audio-visual project by Vuora, a sound poet based in Taipei, and Jenny Jih, a Taiwan-born artist and researcher in London. Vuora shapes the sonic dimension through voice, poetry, and the subconscious flow of dream-like narratives, while Jenny develops the visual and conceptual framework to evoke trance-like memory experiences. Together, they merge sound poetry and moving images to explore the gaps between memory, absence, and the archive.
The title, meaning “water that breaks,” is a coined word from the Icelandic rífa (to rip or tear), softened by -sa to suggest flow and gentleness. The work channels embodied memory, especially trauma that resists language, feminine experiences never formally archived, and emotions that live in the body’s resonance. Rífsa inhabits the space between what is remembered deep within feminine essence and what cannot be said. The first three pieces, She, Within You, and Talking, marking the beginning of the series.
